The LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY Orchestra is the heart of the Academy. It is in this ensemble that all Academy students come together each year to study key works of the 20th and 21st centuries – from modernist classics to numerous contemporary compositions receiving their world premieres – for a three-week-long phase of intensive work under the direction of Pierre Boulez and other renowned conductors. Ever since its first performance in the summer of 2004 the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY Orchestra has been giving several concerts each year as part of LUCERNE FESTIVAL in Summer. Following this Lucerne residency, the ensemble regularly undertakes international tours. Last year the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY Orchestra was invited to perform in the Salle Pleyel in Paris in October 2012. Along with Pierre Boulez, such conductors as Matthias Pintscher, Sir Simon Rattle, Peter Eötvös, Heinz Holliger, Pablo Heras-Casado, Susanna Mälkki, David Robertson, and Jean Deroyer have led the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY Orchestra.
