On 24 August 2013, Pierre Boulez, the Artistic Director of the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY, selected two young composers to receive the newly launched Roche Young Commissions. On 27 August these young artists were welcomed at Roche.The Canadian-born Samy Moussa and the Polish-born Piotr Peszat were each assigned to compose an orchestral work within two years, which will then be given their world premieres as part of LUCERNE FESTIVAL in Summer 2015 by the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY Orchestra under the direction of two young conductors. In the summer of 2014 the two composers will work on their piece in consultation with Pierre Boulez, the young conductors, and the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY Orchestra.
Samy Moussa was born in 1984 in Canada and studied with Matthias Pintscher, Pascal Dusapin, and José Evangelista. He has received commissions in recent years from such renowned organizations as the Munich Biennale, the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, and the Kissinger Summer.
Piotr Peszat, who was born in 1980 in Poland, received his training in Kraków with Olga Lazarska and Krzysztof Meyer and is currently studying in Aarhus, Denmark. His works have been premiered at the International New Music Festival in 2012 and at the Festival Axes in Kraków in 2011.
