One guiding principle of the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY is to foster the relationship among performers, conductors, and composers in order to enhance the performance of 20th- and 21st-century music.
In 2003 Roche, along with Lucerne Festival, the Cleveland Orchestra and Carnegie Hall, launched a pioneering cultural initiative. Today Roche Commissions continues as a unique collaboration between Roche, LUCERNE FESTIVAL and the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY. Under the terms of the partnership since its inception, Roche regularly commissions a new work from an outstanding contemporary composer. Each work is premiered at LUCERNE FESTIVAL in Summer.
A further expression of the partnership between Roche and LUCERNE FESTIVAL is the launch of Roche Young Commissions in 2013. Every two years, alternating with the ongoing Roche Commissions programme’s biannual cycle, two young composers will be commissioned to write orchestral works which will then premiere at Lucerne's Summer Festival.
Furthermore the Composer Seminar supervised by Wolfgang Rihm enables an intense dialogue between young composers and international young performers.
